skin and nerve cells have different apperances and charteristics from each other although they contian the same DNA,why?

The DNA in all cells is the same. The cells will specialise as a certain type (ie skin or nerve) and this 'turns off' certain genes which are not relevant to the function of that particular cell and expresses others which tell the cell how to grow and what chemicals to produce.
