Grace sells two kinds of granola. One is worth $4.00 per pound and the other is worth $3.00 per pound. She wants to blend the two granolas to get a 20 pound mixture that is worth a total of $72.00. How much of each kind should she use?

Have you started solving it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to figure out how to make the equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. so first you need to setup variables for unknown quantities. Any ideas how to do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well one would be 4.00x and 3.00 y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that is correct 4x is the price of one kind of granola and 3y is that of the other Add them to get 4x + 3y = total price = 72 and x + y = total weight = 20pounds now you have two equations

ohhh, that makes sense. Thannk you!
