Have you ever heard of "object permanence"? Just because you can't see something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. For example, I'm home right now. I'm not with any of my friends. And I can't SEE them, because they're not sitting right in front of me. BUT I still know that my friends exist. I can't see them with my eyes, right now, but I still know that they exist. That's "object permanence."
