Tried having someone explain this too me, but they were overly technical. Can someone help me solve |-2x + 5| < 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the first things first, do you know what the two bars that have -2x + 5 mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so it means that everything in-between those bars is opposite of what it says. So what would the new equation be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|2x-5|<60 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well actually my bad it means absolute value is the distance from zero. Which essentially means If x is negative, then change it to positive. Otherwise, leave it alone." So |-2| = 2. Also, |2| = 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be 2x+5 < 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you in algebra?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. Its just confusing
