Depends are we dealing with Japanese haiku or just a general haiku?

A haiku is normally of three lines, with the pattern of syllables to be: 5/7/5

In general they tend to focus on a single object/idea/feeling/thing.

Though it has been know for some Japanese haikus to break that pattern and talk about two things and use the middle line to combine them.
