Joseph Stalin seized power upon the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924. He changed the USSR from agrarian to an industrial power by forcing hundreds of thousands of people into forced labor camps and converting to a command economy with collectivization.
He then purged the country of opposition by accusing and killing millions of "traitors"
He signed a non aggression pact with Germany which divided Poland and other parts of eastern Europe between the two. Germany later violated that treaty and invaded the USSR in 1941. The Soviets allied with the US, Britain and other Allied powers again Germany in WWII
The Soviets suffered huge losses but were able to turn back the Germans and entered Berlin in 1945.
Stalin kept control of east Germany and other east European countries as a buffer zone in case they were attacked again.
They became the second country to have nuclear weapons.
So he industrialized his country. Killed millions. Forced his people into slavery for the State. Helped defeat Nazis, started the Cold War and spread nuclear weapons
