The process of meiosis is a two step process, Meiosis 1 and Meiosis 2. During Meiosis 1 the cell divides into two "daughter cells." The two daughter cells have the same number of chromosomes as the original cell (2n). During Meiosis 2 the two daughter cells each divide into two haploid cells which have half the number of the original chromosomes (n).
