The length of a rectangle is 7 cm less than twice its width. its area is 72 sq cm. Find the dimensions?

\[A = lw\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[72 = (width)(height)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let width = x length = 2(width) - 7 length = 2x - 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[72 = (x)(2x-7)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now solve for x and that's the width. Then substitute that number into 2x-7, which will give you your length.
