Two corresponding sides of two similar pentagons are 12 cm and 28 cm. What is the ratio of the areas of the pentagons?

hartnn (hartnn):

Area is proportional to square of the sides. so just take the square of the ratios of sides to get the ratio of areas

hartnn (hartnn):

\((12/28)^2 =...\)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Pentagon area = 1.720477401 * side² The pentagon area is proportional to the side squared: 28² = 784 12² = 144 784 / 144 = 5.44 So the larger pentagon has 5.44 times the area of the smaller pentagon.

9/49 would be the ratio ?

hartnn (hartnn):

thats correct :)
