If the charge went along the direction of electric field it will accelerate.But here is goes opposite electric field so it will speed down.
according to the given equation as u move towards the positive x-direction,electric field decreases.terefore,u can say that electric field is directed towards the negative x-direction. a positively charged particle always experiences force in the direction of increasing electric field. therefore,proton will speed down
