Keep in mind that \(\% = \dfrac{1}{100}\) Therefore, to convert something like \(\dfrac{4}{5}\) to an appropriate equivalent fraction, perform the following steps: Create the following proportion. \(\dfrac{4}{5} = \dfrac{x}{100}\) Then solve for \(x\) In this case, \(x\) = 20, therefore, \(\dfrac{4}{5} = \dfrac{20}{100}\) Next write \(\frac{20}{100}\) as: \(20\left(\dfrac{1}{100}\right)\) Now remember we said that \(\dfrac{1}{100} = \%\) so \(\dfrac{4}{5} = 20\%\)
