*MEDAL FAN AND TESTIMONIAL* Lisa glued two pieces of wood together to make the letter L in her art class. She plans to paint all sides of it purple, including the base. The longer piece of wood has dimensions of 2 inches by 2 inches by 6 inches. The shorter piece of wood has dimensions of 3 inches by 2 inches by 2 inches. How many square inches of purple paint will Lisa use to paint her letter L?
Well, what you need to find is the exposed surface area. Do you know why I say exposed?
yes
OK, so what issue are you having in finding the exposed surface area?
every time i do the math it turns out wrong
Well, what math are you using?
area
I mean show me the numbers and how you are multiplying and adding.
ok hang on
Oi just got it! thx for your help anyways tho :)
Were you forgetting to subtract where the one end covered part of one side? 2x2, 2 ends 2x6, 4 sides 2x2, 2 ends 2x3, 4 sides But, one of the ends and an area the same as one end are where things are glued, so: 2x2, -2 ends 2x2x2 + 2x6x4 + 2x3x4
