If yhu read the book, then this should help.
The book "Night" is about WW2 and it was the view from someone dealing with the problems of being a Jew in the holocaust. Why do yhu think they would lose hope? That questions a little more obvious.
Now think about why they would be holding on to hope. why were they determined? What was driving them to survive?
