OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

Mitosis - somatic cell division. Meiosis - reproductive cell division. Mitosis has phases like interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase, where interphase is the resting phase for the successive mitosis phases. Meiosis has two different cycles like Meiosis I and Meiosis II Meiosis I has Prophase very lengthy it has classes like leptotene, zygotene, pachytene, diplotene and diakinesis. then continous metaphase, anaphase and telophase again Meiosis II is exactly similar to mitosis. the main thing is that in meiosis the chromosome number reduce to half and hence we get haploid cells after meiosis when compared to mitosis. Hence meiosis is called reduction division. Hope this helps you....! ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR EXAM..
