I need examples feminist things in Shakespeare's work of either Othello, Macbeth, or Romeo and Juliet. If you can describe what exactly is feminist about it or how its feminist.
I'd say the best one for you to go for is R&J, feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Have you read the play?
No i have not. I need examples of all three. See im writing a term paper on how shakesphere was a feminist. Its an argumentative literature based essay. I was hoping someone who has read R&J or Mb could help me out with this or give me some .edu .org links i can check out.i have read othello & watched the movie though. @formerlyadinosaur
I have read all of them. I definitely wouldn't say Shakespeare was a feminist based on my learning, but I absolutely can look up some sources for you that may contradict my opinion! If there is not any do you have another perspective you can take on the paper?
Well i could go either way with it. whether he was or wasnt a feminist. I just thought it could be easier to argue that he was a feminist since most of his women MB shows power & is demanding, something no women back in shakespheres time was since men were considered on a higher level than women , Juliet who rebeled against her parents for getting together with romeo, also for making a decision on her own to be with Romeo & totally blowing her mom suggestions off, and desdamona, who showed courage by getting with othello , a black "outcast" as viewed by the people of her dads society, even though he was important, he was viewed as an outcast due to him being black, not only that but des followed othello on his journey because she wanted something exciting in her life to happen as in th stories of his that she fell in love with.
I am not finding much to support him writing with feminist ideals, but you may be able to use this as a starting point? http://www.enotes.com/homework-help/what-two-quotes-that-could-used-feminist-criticism-436173 Research scholarly writing in google and you should be able to find something in either viewpoint.
what about for the opposite of it ?
A few google it and you will see, but many are blogs. See if wiki has any reliable sources as a starting point perhaps.
Okay thanks, Is it okay with you if i come across a question between one of these 3 plays if i ask you about it?
Absolutely!
