help with statistics please

OpenStudy (andijo76):

Ted is not particularly creative he uses the pickup line "If I could rearange the alphabet I would put U and I together" the random variable x is the number of girls ted approaches before encountering one who reacts positively. Determine whether the table describes a probablility distribution if it does find its mean and standard deviations.

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

To be a probability distribution, the sum of the probabilities must equal 1.

OpenStudy (andijo76):

oh yeah thanks so it is not a probability distribution because it i think added up to like 800 and something

OpenStudy (andijo76):

0.807 actually

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

yep!

OpenStudy (andijo76):

the standard deviation is not coming out right

OpenStudy (andijo76):

is it because its not a probability distribution

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Yes

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

And the question says so too... "If it does, find the mean and std. deviation" but it's not a prob. distribution

OpenStudy (andijo76):

so for the questions find the mean u of the random variable x select the correct choice below and if necessary fill in the answer box to complete your choice A. u= B, the table is not a probability distribution find the standard deviation o of the random variable x select the correct choice below and if necessary fill in the answer box A. o= B, the table is not a probability distribution would both question be B? or do I fill out the first question and mark the second as B?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

yeah it should be B for both

OpenStudy (andijo76):

ok thanks so so much

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
