Please help!!! What is the value of x? http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1422500_1423000/1422767/1/52235abcda5a63ec3d6e60069a91f82606ac9fe4/MS_PA_131002_171216.jpg A:4 B:4√3 C:8 D:8√3
forgot ur trig? x is the opposite, 16 is the hypotenuse...
hint: sin (theta) = opposite / hypotenuse
I still don't understand, I have read the lesson 5 times now but I cant figure out how to solve this.
remember this formula, it'll make every single problem like this EASY AS PIE, here it is: SOH-CAH-TOA, easy to pronounce, it stands for Sine-Opposite-Hypotenuse, Cosine-Adjacent-Hypotenuse, and Tangent-Opposite-Adjacent
now, by looking at the given figure, u can easily tell which 2 sides are given, are they hypotenuse? adjacent? or opposite? u can tell by looking at it. after that, just use SOH CAH TOA and ur calculator :D
by the way, hypotenuse, adjacent and opposite is with respect to the angle
But only one side is given??
x is also a side! it's opposite of the angle isn't it?
that's what ur solving for
but what about the bottom side?
u don't need the bottom side, all u need is 2 of the sides, so either OH, AH or OA wud work. each corresponds to a different trig function (sin, cos, or tan), and that's the function u have to use to solve the problem
Soo 16^2 will give me the correct answer?
where did the 2 come from?...here lemme draw out the problem |dw:1400729877867:dw|
