The picture shows a box sliding down a ramp. What is the distance, in feet, that the box has to travel to move from point A to point C? 20 cosec 70° 20 by cot 70 degrees 20 by sec 70 degrees 20 sin 70°

You can see that you have a right triangle so the trig functions apply and you can solve for the missing side as well as knowing 2 out of the 3 angles and that a triangle's sides add up to 180 you can find the missing angle as well

I think it is the last one but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you think it is the last one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure. This isn't my strong subject

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using the angle 70 you see that you have the side opposite to the angle and you want to solve for x which is the longest side so it is the hypotenuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what trig function can you use that utilizes the opposite side and hypotenuse side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: SOH CAH TOA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The function would then look like this\[Sin \angle= Opposite/ Hypotenuse \] and plugging in our values we have \[Sin (70) = 20 / x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you multiply 20 by both sides and I get 20 sin(70)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solving for x we get |dw:1400730284913:dw|
