5x=37 Find the value of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to isolate \(x\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. Can you help me?

OpenStudy (cooltowl):

You simply divide 5 by37

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To isolate \(x\) take: \(5x=37 \) and divide both sides by \(5\). So: \[\frac{5x}{5}=\frac{37}{5}\] The 5 on the left cancel each other out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 5x/5 would put x by itself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In essence yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember what you do to one side you must do to the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, x=7.4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. :-)

@TacoGod +1, You get a medal for actually remembering the properties name. :-P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol. I dunno how to put the "squared" on your name. But thanks :)
