What is the quotient written in scientific notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what quotient is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really,i dont understand it @jtryon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what they want to know is the result you get from dividing the two numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i just have to divide the two numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the rule that you use when you divide exponents is to subtract them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you have 2.5 x 10^17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, so we have to divide the numbers and when you do that, you get 250,000,000,000,000,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to put that number in scientific notation, you move the decimal point over 17 to the left and so you have 2.5 X 10^17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah @jtryon is corret ((:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are those your answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops,i put the wrong answers @jtryon sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought you did...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand now what you did,i was looking at the wrong answers so it was confusing me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you think you could help me with one more question? @jtryon
