how does natural selection help explain the theory of evolution

it explains it because natural selection shows that species are changing in order to better suit their environment and those that cannot survive because they do not have the characteristics to survive in their environment die off so the genes that get passed on are those of the ones that survived which causes species to evolve when new genes start to show up more of those that survive better
