Please help, I'll give you a medal! Which pair of points has a negative slope? A. (-3, 17) (2, -8) B. (-3,13), (3,17) C. (4,26) (-2,-10) D. (4,14), (-2,-4)
\[slope =\frac{ y_{1} - y_{2} }{ x_{1} - x_{2} }\] You will need to calculate the points given to find the slopes.
you can calculate them, but you dont need to really
if you order the pairs such that the x parts are low to high; check of the y parts get smaller
for example: (4,14), (-2,-4): this one is out of order soo (-2,-4) (4,14), thats better now we can see that 14 is bigger than -4, so this has a positive slope
Okay, so can you check my answer?
which one do you pick?
I honestly don't get it and have no idea, I'll go with B.
(-3,13), (3,17); the x parts are in order so the y parts go from 13 to 17 ... they get bigger, so this slope is positive
Let me try again!
A. Maybe...?
lets check it :) (-3, 17) (2, -8) the x parts are in order: y moves from 17 to -8; so this is in a downward direction which IS negative. A has a negative slope. Now if you have to define the value of the slope, the formula given to begin with would work out swell.
SO it's A??
A works, yes.
Awesome, thank you so much!
good luck
