MEDAL WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP. The table below shows the outputs y for different inputs x: Part A: Does the table represent y as a function of x? Justify your answer. Part B: The total cost f(x), in dollars, for renting a paddleboat for x hours is shown below: f(x) = 20 + 10x What is the value of f(120), and what does f(120) represent? 120 is the answer because x = 10?

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think y is a function of x because for each x there are 2 different y's so how can you model this with an equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can have the same Y for 2 different X's but not vice-versa

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

i have no idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, that's my answer, y is not a function of x and I said above why is that

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

ohhhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part B can you replace x=120 in the formula and find the answer and post it here?

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

I wasn't reading the squestionr right sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's ok

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

i will try

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

120 = 20 + 10x10 is that what you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no my dear :) x = 120 f(x) = f(120) = 20 + (120*120) = ???

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

erm it's not 14,420 is it?

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

can't possibly be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i stuffed up above f(120) = 20 + (10*120) = 20 + 1200 sorry it was a typo

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

Oh so thats the quation ok i see. I solve that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, they are asking you to find the value if f(120) = ???

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

ok

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

i'm lost

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

sorry for being so much trouble i have a hard time with math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lost where? 20 + 1200 = 1220 which is the answer

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

.. thats what i thought but okay yeah thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw :)
