Household circuits are always wired so that the electrical devices are connected in parallel. Why is this so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if a light bulb goes out, then you don't lose power in the whole house so if it goes out in parallel, you are good and only that one light bulb will go out

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

yeah ineedhelp143 is correct if u take an example like 3 bulbs are connected in series and fed from a same voltage source then each bulb gets 1/3 of the main voltage and if any one of them is fails the whole lot will fail thats the disadvantage of series connection on the other hand Parallel wiring means that every device gets the same voltage so every bulb will have a well-controlled voltage across it. and if any one of them goes out it doesnot affect the combination

thank you :D
