Amiko is riding her bike on a wet street. As the bike wheel spins, water droplets are sprayed off tangent to the wheel. Amiko’s bike wheels have a radius of 12 inches. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance the water droplets have been sprayed when they are 13 inches from the center of the wheel.

well you know the radius and tangent meet at right angles so you have a right triangle with hypotenuse 13 and shorter side 12 so you can say \[13^2 = 12^2 + b^2\] solve for b

yeah....what they said..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my options are: 5 sq root 2 inches 5inches 5 sq root 3 sq root 13 out of these which is my best option? thank you @campbelle_st @johnbc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

great so whats the square root of 25...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
