PLEASE HELP WILL MEDAL!!! (ans. must be correct) Here is a series written in expanded form: 3 + 8 + 13 + ... + 33 Which of the following summation notations represents this series?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

its an arithmetic series, start by finding the \(n\)th term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nth?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes what formulas do u remember about arithmetic series ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(3 + 8 + 13 + \cdots + 33\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

look at the series ^ can u tell me below : first term = ? common difference = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 is the common difference 3 is the first terms

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

sorry i was not getting notifications :/ yes ! so the nth term is given by : \(\large a_n = a_1 + (n-1)*d\) \(\large ~~~ = ?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@moemand if you used the first answer and replaced i with 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 then do u get this series?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess what u need to mindful of when choosing the answer is the range, is it from 1 to 5 or to 6 or to 7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can you get 33? 5*7 - 2 = 33 7 is the 7th term of the series that @ganeshie8 was explaining to you
