Which is the correct ascending order for radioactive particles with regard to their ability to ionize air?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

heaver radioactive particle will ionize air less compared to the lighter radioactive particles :) mean heavier the radioactive particle the lesser they ionize the air :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that mean the order is Alpha, Beta, then Gamma?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

bingoooooooo:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much for your help!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

ur welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was wondering if you could help me with something else?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yes plz go ahead

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would you happen to know why gamma, beta and alpha radiation are similar?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what do u mean buy similar ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is : Gamma, beta and alpha radiation are all alike because...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it because they are emitted from the nucleus of the atom? because that's the answer i put in not too long ago.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yup thats right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much for your help! I feel kinda bad for asking questions like this all the time. Chemistry just doesn't stick to me! Would you have time to answer one more question i have?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yes plz go ahead and no need to feel bad :)but i appreciate ur doing hardwork to get all stuff :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is: When a gamma ray is emitted from the nucleus of an atom: it reduces the overall energy of the nucleus it increases the overall energy of the nucleus it causes a charge imbalance in the nucleus it causes changes in the electronic structure outside of the nucleus

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what u think ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It could be that it increases the overall energy of the nucleus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure about the 3rd or the 4th option though...

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

gamma radiation is emitted only if alpha or beta rays are emitted in the nuclear reaction the gamm radiation is followed by alpfa and beta , other wise it wont be emitted singly....actually the answer is it wont decrease or increase in mass of nucleus :) i guess its first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh I see that does make sense! Thank you very much I hope I can finish these last questions on my own. I hope you have a good day!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

thanks you to have a good day
