Which of the following represents the set of integers greater than zero? {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} {1, 2, 3, ..., 98, 99, 100} {all positive numbers} {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...}

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Ask yourself these questions: Are there any positive integers greater than 5? Are there any positive integers greater than 100? Are there any positive NUMBERS which are not INTEGERS Having answered those questions - look at the possible answers - only one will be possible when you have answered those questions....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ask those questions about the answer choices? So if the answer is "no" to those questions, that isn't your answer, or it IS your answer?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

NO - ask those questions about what you know about numbers. Just answer the questions - either post them here - or write them down. THEN for each of the answers (except the correct one) you will see that one of the above questions will tell you that the answer must be wrong

OpenStudy (mrnood):

the questions asks you to recognise the set of {all integers greater than 0}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, the first TWO questions, the answer would be yes, the last one would be no.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

is (for instance) +2.456 a number? is it an integer? take another look at your answer to the 3rd question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So ALL questions are "yes".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So e answer is the 3rd choice?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

correct SO does the set{1,2,3,4,5} contain all the positive integers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

sorry - correct was to your previous question third choice is NOT correct and above - you have already answered that there are integers >5 therefore that set does NOT contain all the positive integers (6,7,8,.....)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is so confusing, okay. So what am I looking for?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

The question asks you to decide which of the 4 sets contains ALL the positive integers. The first set contains only the integers 1-5 The second set contains the integers 1-100 The third set contains all the positive NUMBERS (e.g. 1, 1.2, 1.11, 2. 2.456,........) So you must look and see if any of the answers is the set containing ALL positive integers
