The figure shown is an irregular polygon. One of its interior angles measures one hundred ten degrees. What is the exterior angle of that vertex? An eight-sided polygon with different side lengths, one of the angles measures one hundred ten degrees. forty-five degrees seventy degrees one hundred thirty-five degrees two hundred fifty degrees

the sum of an interior angle and it's corresponding exterior angle are always 180 degrees...so if the interior angle is 110, it's corresponding exterior angle is...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sum of the interior angles of a regular polygon is one thousand eight hundred degrees. What is the measure of each exterior angle of the polygon? One hundred fifty degrees One hundred eight degrees Sixty degrees Thirty degrees

@mtbender74

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok...so we need to figure out how many sides the figure has...then find the measure of one interior angle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the sum of the interior angles of a regular n-sided polygon is\[180(n-2)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if \[1800=180(n-2)\]what does n=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 1800=180(n-2). Umm...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n=12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide both sides by 180..then add 2 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1800= 180(12-2) 12-2=10 180*10= 1800

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct :) so if the sum of the 12 interior angles is 1800, then each interior angle would be 1800/12...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 150?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol...we've determined that we have a 12-sided figure, yes? so there are 12 interior angles...and the sum of those 12 interior angles is 1800

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if the interior angles are 150 degrees, what would be the corresponding exterior angle measure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfecto! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want to be able to do these a little faster, if you know how many sides the polygon has, you can use the fact that the measuer of an exterior angle is always 360/n degrees so in this case, once we knew that it was a 12-sided figure, we could say exterior angle = 360/12 = 30 degrees...
