log 5x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I put this into a calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nevermind x=200

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You do not need a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you don't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

using a calculator is another word for "CHEA-TING"

I have a very theoretical way of solving this one. Are you interested?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure shoot

OpenStudy (shamim):

i m also interested to c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay here we go. log without a base means that the base here is 10. So a smart way of doing this one is to raise both sides to the power of 10. \[10^ ((\log_{10} 5x)) = 10^3\] This would later simplify to: 5x = 10^3. because a log of a certain base is raised to the power of the same base they cancel off.

Solve for x :)

Very nice :) thanks this helped a lot.
