Two boats start their journey from the same point A and travel along directions AC and AD, as shown below. What is the distance, CD, between the boats?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a diagram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know you can use 30 60 90 to find DB but idk what to do after that ? i get the wrong answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is a good start. We know DB and we want DC. |dw:1400894128738:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if we know length DB, and we subtract length BC from it... we will find CD (the distance between the two boats!)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

finding BC should be pretty easy because we know one side (400ft) and we know the angle 60 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find BC we subtract the two ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry im really bad at math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, we find BC and then subtract BC from BD (I will draw it)
