Askia Muhammad the ruler of Songhay Empire in West Africa in the 15th and 16th centuries. It is believed that he descended from Soninke people who were the oldest clan in the West Africa region. Muhammad's contributions as ruler included increasing trade and commerce to Europe, standardizing measurements and creating a set of leaders to deal with finance, the justice system, agriculture, forests and water.
