The problem is somewhat poorly worded but Im going to assume that when the questions says after four months, it means +2 months after the previous 2 months time. This pattern shows that the rabbit population doubles every 2 months. 

so after 6 months rabbits=40
8 months = 80
10 months = 160
12 month = 1 year = 320
