Help with literary analysis?

So I have to write a literary analysis essay and I'm just kind of confused. I know I want to do it on The Fault In Our Stars, because that's my favorite book and I've read it a million times. I've read everything I was assigned to about literary analysis but I still don't fully understand how I'm even supposed to write something like this.. I've read examples of literary analysis essays but I just don't get the point. If anyone could explain it to me and how I'm supposed to write it that would be awesome. Thanks
