Compare each of the functions shown below:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which function has the largest maximum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) = 3 cos(2x − π) − 1 h(x) x y −2 −7 −1 −2 0 1 1 2 2 1 3 −2 4 −7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*The picture above shows f(x)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

look at the graph of f(x) whats the maximum y value it reaches ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

It shoots up to "2" and falls down again, eh ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, so 2 is the maximum?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yep !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

next look at the table maybe.. whats the maximum y value in the table ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As in the highest? 2 also?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes ! what about the maximum value of g(x) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wouldn't know how to find that, but I'm guessing from the pattern, that it's also 2?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

g(x) = 3 cos(2x − π) − 1 the max value of cos is +1, when cos is max the expression evaluates to 3*1-1 = 2 so yes you're right, the maximum value of g(x) is also 2
