How many electrons are in the valence shell of I in IF4-? Is it 12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@karatechopper please help?

OpenStudy (somy):

since total no of electrons in last shell of I is originally 7, 4 of them are used in bonding with F atoms so the number of electrons will be doubled thus 8 electrons so now 8 + 3 non bonding electrons= 11 electrons

OpenStudy (somy):

this is the dot structure :)

makes sense :) thank you!!

OpenStudy (somy):

u r welcome :D
