Is a promoter a part of an intron, or is an intron a part of a promoter?

If there is one answer to this then, The promoter is part of the intron because it does not get transcribed into mRNA just as introns don't get transcribed. Promoters are just stations for proteins to attach.

However, if there is a "NEITHER" option then, Intron is the name given for sequences that wont be used in making the actual protein. On these intron there can be many different kinds of regulatory regions. However promotors are usually located 10 to 15 bases before transcription start site therefore a promotor can not be on a intron of a gene as for as i know. So neither.
