.00309*10^-9 convert to scientific notation.
3.09 * 10^-11
thanks
Welcome!
You want to convert to a multiply of 10^ something where you keep the same number of significant figures as shown. Future reference
Also where you have only 1 digit in the ones place and the rest in the decimal places by using multiples of 10
would .00306*10^-15 be the same? like 3.06*10^-17? & i don't understand johnbc
It is actually moved 3 decimal places to the right so you know that each of those decimal places represents a multiply of 10 then you want to know whether it is a positive or negative multiply
Let me show you an example
\[0.000345 = 3.45 \times 10^-4\]
oh ok i understand. thanks!
because we moved the decimal place to the right 4 times and to get it back to its original place we would have to multiply it by 10 negative 4 times
No problem, if you understand you will see that the answer eng_chen gave you is wrong
oh so its 10^-12
Correct! great job
thanks!
My pleasure
so for 709.3*10^5 it would be 7.09*10^8?
Well how many decimal places did you move it to get from 709.3 to 7.09?
two
Another thing is that you are missing a number since you had 4 significant figures in the beginning you will need 4 significant figures at the end so it would be 7.093 x 10^ something
So if it only moved 2 decimal places how much 10s should be add to that 5?
7
Correct! Great job
ok, thanks
