I think the first slaves (of the United States of America) were African Americans (B).  I am not sure how long they were used as slaves, but I bet you can go back and look in your lesson or textbook.  Slaves were treated horribly, especially in bigger plantations.  "12 Years a Slave" gives an excellent view on how slaves were treated.  They would work probably fifteen hours a day, mothers would watch people do horrible things to their daughters, and they were punished by whipping, shackling, hanging, beating, burning, mutilation, branding and imprisonment.
