Why was Jefferson Davis having trouble keeping the Confederacy unified?

Jefferson Davis had trouble with unification of his confederate soldiers because of he lacked control, respect and trust with his men. He went from an officer to a general and was not ready for the position. [ He also had many disagreements with his generals. ]
