Why in the solution for challenge problem no. 3 in "One-Dimensional Kinematics: Non-Constant Acceleration" (link to solutions: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/8-01sc-physics-i-classical-mechanics-fall-2010/translational-kinematics/one-dimensional-kinematics-non-constant-acceleration/MIT8_01SC_problems05_soln.pdf ) they don't take into account the initial velocity of the iPod (V_po)? Inserting it turns the free-fall equation to a quadratic one with 2 answers, which makes it somewhat more complicated than their solution.
