Factor completely: 2x2 + 10x + 12 A. 2(x + 1)(x + 6) B. 2(x + 2)(x + 3) C. (x + 2)(x + 3) D. 2(x + 2)(x + 6)

OpenStudy (muzzack):

is it 2x^2 + 10x + 12

Since it is just checking against the given answer - you can simply pick the \[x^2\], x and the constant terms and see which one will work e.g. (C) can only give \[x^2\] and not \[2x^2\], (D) has the constant term 2.2.6 = 24 so, (A) and (B) could be the answer. If we check the coeffcient of x then (A) has 2.(1+6) = 14 whereas (B) has 2.(2+3) = 10. So, the answer is (B)
