Carla has 1 gallon of paint. She is going to pour it into a paint tray that measures 10 inches wide, 10 inches long, and 7 cm deep. (1 gallon = 231 in3, 1 inch = 2.54 cm) Which of the following scenarios will happen? A. The paint will not fill the tray by 44.59 in3. B. The paint will not fill the tray by 469 cm3. C. The paint will fill the tray exactly. D. The paint will overfill the tray by 44.59 in3.
1 gallon = 231 in^3 7 cm / (2.54 cm/in) = 2.7559 in
But that's not helping me find the answer.
Help
The tray is in the shape of a rectangular prism so L X W X H = volume
1 gallon = 231 cubic inches.
Ok
V = l x w x h V = 10 x 10 x 2.75591 V = 275.591cubic inches
Gallon of paint required to fill the tray = 275.591cubic inches
volume = amount of space in a 3-D object.
Paint required to fill tray = Total gallon of paint - amount to fill tray
231 - 275.591 = -44.59
You'll be short 44.59 cubic inches of paint. So the answer is A.
Oh okay thanks
@AprilMAY Thank you for your PM. I choose to respond to it publicly. What we see above is NOT how things should work. You showed no effort in solving this problem, except to ask and to wait for the answer to pop out. That is very unlikely to "help" you. Mindblast3r will not be there for your exam. You must demonstrate that YOU can do the necessary thinking and calculation. THAT we can help.
tkhunny is 100% correct.
I was offline when @Mindblast3r was doing all of the work? I didn't mean to make it look like he or she was doing all of my work. If youre going to ocme at me please come at me correctly and all your information together. I was NOT waiting for the answer to just automatically pop up so don't assume I was. I don't know what exam youre talking about because that problem was one of my problems from my online school, thank you VERY much. :) @tkhunny
wtf?? what about me?
IF you read the message correctly no one was talking badly about you @Mindblast3r
i mean you didn't thank me?
my answer was wrong?
Are you kidding me? I did thank you before @tkhunny decided to come and put me on blast.
oh i didn't see sorry, was my answer correct?
No. It doesnt matter i got 9/10 on it anyways
what was the answer for this question then?
Idk, my teacher already locked the quiz so i can't go back
how you know my answer is wrong then?
Bc after she grades the test online, it gives us the answer Do I really have to go into a WHOLE conversation about your answer being right or wrong..?
I'm not trying to sound rude but I don't like the little message I got when i got back on from you & @tkhunny, plus i have a an assignment i ned to finish right now. Thanks for your help anyways.
what message you didn't like from me? wtf?
I stand by my response to your PM. Part of the learning of mathematics is in the learning of the thinking process itself. If you are given sufficient information, it is for you to put the pieces together to find the solution. It is this THINKING that is required. Just about anyone can follow two or three steps to solve a specific problem. Your responses to Mindblast3r are "ok" and "Oh OK Thanks" I cannot tell from these exchanges that you are learning anything. Since the goal of this site is for you to learn and for volunteers to help you learn, there should be SOME interchange where this learning is indicated. 1) You may or may not be learning from Mindblast3r's presentation. It's not clear that you are or not. 2) Your response to me was "But that's not helping me find the answer." This indicates clearly that you are not learning. That's all I'm saying. What should you be learning? Solve the problem or learn to think? Are you giving the volunteers ANYTHING they can use to judge your progress? These are important considerations.

Lol. You're taking this so serious. If you don't like the way I ask questions or anything why even reply. It's ignorant to just put me out like that why don't you ignore me bc you clearly don't like my responses. That's all I'm saying. ;)
Both of you. Have a wonderful day. Goodbye :)
I'm neither putting you out nor not liking your responses. It depends on what you want. However, in order to accomplish the goals of this site, I need more information. If you would like to proceed in some fashion that you choose, that does not allow the exchange of this necessary information, you are less likely to learn anything. My ONLY purpose in volunteering, here, is for you to learn. Training you to communicate more effectively with volunteers is an important part of that. The more you learn to communicate, the more you learn. If you REALLY want to learn, then also learn to communicate necessary feedback information to volunteers. If you want someone to give you answers, I suppose you could get away with that for a while. Come back when you're ready to learn!
