A quantum number quantifies some conserved quantity in a quantum system. For example, atomic electrons states have a principle quantum number \(n\) (denotes energy level), orbital angular momentum \(\ell\), its projection on to some axis \(m_\ell\), intrinsic spin \(s\) and its projection \(m_s\)
