Why are nutrients from fertilizer harmful to aquatic ecosystems? They cause an increase in fish populations. The increase in algae population reduces oxygen in the water. They can infect plants, which causes animals and humans to become sick. Fish and other organisms grow too large and can no longer live in the ecosystem.

OpenStudy (somy):

second option is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thnx:)

OpenStudy (somy):

because fertilizer contains many useful ions for algae, the it starts growing in large amounts and thus covering up the whole surface of water, then after they die, they are decomposed by bacteria and these bacteria use up all dissolved in water oxygen and now oxygen is in low amount so it causes aquatic animals to die

OpenStudy (somy):

this is why its second one, just in case)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep,I thought its the second one too.Just wasn't sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx

OpenStudy (somy):

u r welcome)
