please help!!! A company did a survey among 100 customers to find their favorite color for cars. The customers were asked about their preferences for black or red cars. Out of the total 32 people who liked black cars, 12 liked red cars also. There were 25 people who liked red cars. Part A: Summarize the data by writing the values which the alphabets A to I in the table below represent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

were you able to get anywhere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i tried, but im not really sure

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

What does A represent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

people who like black and red cars?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

for part A, you're just going through each letter in that table and writing what they stand for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

theyre asking for values though

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

B is people who don't like black cars and like red cars etc etc

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok, then you have to go through the data given above the table to sort it out

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how many total people like red cars?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

those are the people who liked black cars as well I'm looking for the total people who like red cars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

where does 25 go? which letter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but you said A was those who liked black and red I want the total red (whether they like black or not)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

there are 100 people, so the rest don't like red 100 - 25 = 75 people don't like red where does 75 go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f

OpenStudy (anonymous):

F

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how many total like black cars?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

where does that go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

G

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so what is the value of H then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

68

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what is the value of I?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

out of 32 people who like black cars, 12 of them like red also so where does 12 go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you know A and you know C how can you use this to find B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hopefully you see how to fill out the rest of the table

OpenStudy (anonymous):

E IS 55?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it asks this Do the people surveyed have more dislike for red cars than black cars? Justify your answer.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

compare the totals of people who dislike red cars and people who dislike black cars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one moment please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so b is 13 which is people who dont like black cars right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and e is 55 which is people who dont like red cars right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you're in part A, yeah that's correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

B are those who don't like black, but like red E are those who don't like either color

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so they have a more dislike for red cars?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah it appears to be that way (75 is more than 68)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i describe that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so they like red cars more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sorry i have to justify that and i dont know how

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no, you just said they have more dislike for red cars (which is true)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you are comparing the values of H and F

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OKAY, SO I'LL EXPLAIN IT THAT WAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH VERY MUCH

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
