because it helps you figure out the divisions of numbers more easily? plus, like simple math, if you had 8 pieces of pizza, and wanted to share it with 4 ppl, how many pizza's will each person get? its easier using fractions, is it not?

4/8=1/2, so one person will get 2 slices ;)
