What is the difference between cumulative distribution function and probability density function?

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

The cdf is a function on graphing calculators which finds the area under a probability curve between two set endpoints, thus finding the probability of the event occuring in that range. The pdf is a function that only finds the probability for a single specific outcome, and thus can only be used for distributions that are not continuous.
