Can anyone help me with this question? The graph of f(x) = x2 has been shifted into the form f(x) = (x - h)2 + k. What is the value of h? a. 2 b. -5 c. -2 d. -5
Is there a picture of the graph?
yes i'll try to get you a copy
i am not having luck getting it to copy but it is a parabola opening upward with the point (-2, -5) at the very bottom of the parabola
easy It is 2 horizontal units away from the point (0,0) right?
yes exactly
h = horizontal, k = vertical, We want h, so it's 2 units away
Since it's LEFT, we use negative 2. If it were RIGHT we'd use positive 2. so our answer here is -2
i always get confused with which way it shifts.... thank you you're awsome!
watch: If something is added inside the parenthesis: it's horizontal If something is added outside the parenthesis: it's vertical. Positive for up/right Negative for down/left Just remember this and u're good
so if it's like (x-h) + k the k would be a vertical and either plus or minus? Oh that helps a lot. thank you!
I have to remember that!!!
