How can we stop these things?

random231 (random231):

random231 (random231):

i think we need more mods!

random231 (random231):

@preetha @hartnn @thomaster

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

IP ban is the main way to stop complete spamming of the user. I'm glad you brought this up, spammings have been becoming more of an attraction for users. It's quite annoying to be honest. They only come back with new accounts because it is so easy to make a new account. Suspending the spammer will still cause them to come back and spam even more. It's best to try and avoid it until we have a better system for spammers.

random231 (random231):

well you are right but sometimes there are no mods online. i think we need mods from different time zones.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

There are mods from different time zones, there's some in India, U.S.A. Europe, and so on. Moderators aren't forced into being on here 24/7. Do I feel like we need a few more moderators? Yes I do believe that. Only Preetha can decide that. It's also quite hard to make new moderators, you have to have a completely great record, 80+ ss, 18 years or older as well as having the responsibility.

random231 (random231):

yeah so we better leave this to preetha. I think shell do what is good :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

consider this .... an empty room with an innumerable amount of doors. a thief comes in thru an unlocked door. they are escorted out and the door is locked for say a month. as you lock that one door, they decide to come back in thru the door right beside it. they are escorted out and the door is locked for say a month. as you lock that one door, they decide to come back in thru the door right beside it. they are escorted out and the door is locked for say a month. as you lock that one door, they decide to come back in thru the door right beside it. they are escorted out and the door is locked for say a month. etc .... the solution has little to do with the number of people able to escort them out and lock the door since there is always an innumerable amount of doors that are left open for them to just turn around and walk back in. the tools given to a mod only allows them to escort a person out of the room, and lock the account they were using. it does not prevent them from turning around and creating a new account to continue the same behaviour.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"i think we need more mods!" -person who plays Gmod. Yes, I agree we need more moderators.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are already a sufficient amount of moderators, a homework help forum I used to moderator had only 15 moderators and around 100k returning users per day. Handling spammers, trolls, etc were easy because the moderators had the tools. It would rather hope OpenStudy hires more admins and works on improving basic tools for the moderators. Having more moderators would not help anything right now, as the basic tools do not even work. o_o

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

We need more active admins. I know most are busy with working on the servers but we could really use them here, patrolling Openstudy. If a situation arose and a spammer had to be IP banned, the moderators could go to him/her to have it done. The only admin I every seen on is Preetha and no offense but I have never seen her handling spammers, trolls, etc. I understand back then admins came on often but now they are scarce and the spammers and trolls have taken advantage of this. Admins Come Back :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In 3 years I could become a moderator.....that will take forever.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

they wanted to see how the site would evolve without their them being around. and Preetha has handled interlopers before :)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

It is a development cycle issue at this point. I won't go into the technical reasons why, but there are some more cultural ones. The development team changed. A lot of the original team were students. They graduated. They got jobs. There were other reasons for other changes as well. That put the new team playing catch up. Hopefully they can get to some mod tool fixes and site security improvements soon.
